Formlabs Nylon 11 CF is a carbon fiber-reinforced SLS powder that enables the 3D printing of non-deforming technical parts. Nylon 11 CF has a higher load-bearing capacity, shock resistance, and temperature resistance than regular Nylon 11/12.

Nylon 11 CF Powder must be printed using the Formlabs Fuse 1+ 30W with nitrogen supply.

Formlabs Nylon 11 CF is the strongest and most resistant material of all Formlabs SLS powders and even SLA resins. Parts printed with this material can be used up to 178°C without deformation (HDT-A), which is 91°C higher than pure Nylon 11.

With a Young’s Modulus of 5.3 GPa, it is also the second stiffest material Formlabs offers, next to Formlabs Rigid 10K resin. Despite this extremely high stiffness, this material is no more brittle and can absorb harder impacts than Nylon 11. The added carbon fibers improve tensile and load-bearing strength by 65%, giving Nylon 11 CF 69 MPa in tensile strength and 132 MPa in load-bearing strength.

The combination of all these properties makes it possible to design smaller and lighter parts that will have the same resistance as regular Nylon 11/12 parts.

Printing tips

Buildchamber atmosphere

Formlabs Nylon 11 CF requires an inert atmosphere to 3D print. This can be achieved in the Formlabs Fuse 1+ using the special connection and a nitrogen supply, or by using a gas cylinder or generator such as the FLAIRMO N2G-15C.

Formlabs Fuse Sift filter

To reuse unsintered powder, it must first be sieved. Because of the added fibers, it’s necessary to replace the standard 150µm filter of the Formlabs Fuse Sift with a coarser 300µm filter. Without this filter, the powder will clump together.
