At Fenix 3D, we now also supply Isopropyl Alcohol IPA in 25-liter containers. We decided to do this in 25-liter bottles because there is a safety risk associated with smaller volumes.
IPA is used (among other things) to clean SLA 3D prints. The Formlabs Wash and Wash L can both do this automatically and have a volume of 15 and 43 liters.
Evaporation of IPA
The first problem with smaller bottles is the time it takes to open them and fill the machines. During this filling process, because the container is open, some of the IPA evaporates, which is irritating and flammable. Naturally, we want to avoid this.
Splash hazard
The second problem is the splashing effect when the extra IPA first falls into the container, which can splash out of the container and onto the employee. For this reason, we also recommend always wearing gloves, a mask, and safety glasses.
This second problem can be avoided by using a pump (for example the Formlabs resin pump).
IPA Alternative
It’s also for this reason that Formlabs offers its IPA alternative, Formlabs Washing Solution, in 25 liters. This alternative is non-flammable according to the GHS classification.
